Architect: bogevischs buero Hofmann Ritzer Architekten and Werner Wirsig, Munich
Period of planning & construction: 2006-10
Size of site: 3,5 ha

Built as accommodation for the sportswomen of the Olympic Games in 1972, the bungalows have since then been used as student homes.
For the required restoration of the village the architecture and open space typologies have been redeveloped, based on the previous characteristics.
Because of the spatially compact, as an ensemble protected, architecture, the complete exterior space is involved in the construction operations.
The character of the new planning as well as the dimensions of the existing structures are important guidelines for the redesign of the site.
Prominent elements of the open space, such as the planted stripes bordering the buildings, the circular concrete plant bowls, the walls at the southern ends of the lanes and the flooring materials are continued in the new design and are purposefully complemented in detail with elements as, for example, groups of honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos).
Due to building regulations and the original conceptual design of the Olympic village all buildings (except of the restored monuments and the assembly hall) will get a green roof.
